Graecien:
Taekwondo represents balance, strength, resilience, friendship, life lessons, and mentorship. The Missoula Taekwondo Center is more than just a dojang; it is a community where individuals of all ages, skills, and backgrounds can feel supported.
Taekwondo inspires me to be a better person every day. The principles I have learned through Master Steve are part of my problem-solving when encountering situations I need guidance on. It inspires me to be my best so that one day I can train with the best Taekwondo athletes worldwide and compete at Nationals. I am also inspired to be the type of teacher I admire at the Missoula Taekwondo Center. Master Steve has created an arsenal of amazing teachers, and I want to be that type of teacher for future Taekwondo students.
Taekwondo has given me a purpose every day. It teaches me to be a better version of myself through hard work, commitment, challenges, setbacks, and grit.
Aynsleigh:
Taekwondo is more than just a martial art; it represents a way of life. The principles I learn through Taekwondo will impact my life far beyond my time at the Missoula Taekwondo Center.
In the past, I've struggled to stay involved in a sport beyond the season. It was always hard to understand the process and learn what they taught. However, since starting Taekwondo two years ago, I've learned that repetition, practice, and encouragement can help me overcome challenges and motivate me to achieve great things. Taekwondo has given me the confidence to be a better friend, partner, and student. In the past, I experienced bullying at school and struggled to stand up for myself, often choosing to retreat. However, after training at Missoula Taekwondo Center, Master Steve taught me that I can do hard things. He always says, "When things get hard, that is when you need to dig deeper."
It's easy to say I want to be a National Champion, but Taekwondo has inspired me to compete at the highest level I can. I know that as long as I give it my best effort, I have done my job!
Mia:
Taekwondo is a journey. Throughout all of your belt colors, you get to experience things you wouldn’t with most other sports, like that feeling when your team cheers you on at tournaments. It inspires me to keep trying harder because every time you mess up, you look around to a room of people that refuse to give up with failure.
Whenever I do another activity, like drawing or going out of my comfort zone, Taekwondo is a reminder that I have worked hard outside of my comfort zone many times before and I can apply that mindset and determination to succeed anywhere outside of my comfort zone.
I’m currently working on getting my Black Belt and after 7 years of Taekwondo I can confidently say that the people, the art, and the tenets have all made me a better athlete!
